The International Trauma System Development Program (ITSDP) is the international component of VCU Health Trauma Center (VCU-TC). It is a collaborative program between the Division of Acute Care Surgical Services and Emergency Surgery, and the VCU Injury and Violence Prevention Program (IVPP), the Center for Trauma and Critical Care Education (CTCCE), Emergency Medical Transport Services (Life Evac) and Computing Support and Information Services (CSIS) of VCU Department of Surgery.

ITSDP is also a component of the Virginia Commonwealth University Reanimation Engineering Shock Center (VCURES). VCURES is the multidisciplinary center of excellence involving 8 Colleges, 30 Departments, and more than 50 Investigators. It is a collaborative effort among clinicians, basic scientists, and engineers of diverse backgrounds from the VCU Health and academic campuses to improve survival from the disease-state called shock. This includes its prevention, pathophysiologic basis, diagnosis, and treatment.

ITSDP focuses on the enhancement and development of international systems for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of trauma. Primarily operating through collaborative projects with local health ministries and existing medical and public health institutions

ITSDP promotes the development of the infrastructure of the various interdependent stages of a trauma system: from injury prevention to critical care management of trauma injury victims in developing nations.
